The basic concept presented to the Kraftmasters always has been – “What
technique or skill would be lost to the industry - If you did not share them
with the attendees?” In 1998, Kraftwerks was created by PMWest of Los Angeles
and is primarily sponsored Otto Frei, MJSA and AJM magazine. We are educating
jewelers with the newest techniques and manufacturing insights. This event by
nature must be held at our factory. After all, we actually perform processes
here, not merely discuss them.
Networking and conversation fills in the early moments as we all have
coffee and donuts, greet the friendly security guard and wait for the talent to
begin. Brainstorming with everyone can help most problems you have. The contacts
you make are as important as the skills you will learn.
Since 2002 we have a new Director-Daniel Ballard. One of the changes Daniel has
brought to Kraftwerks is a different spin on how we teach you to be a better
jeweler. Past years often included PowerPoint or slideshow lectures. Last year every
one of our Kraftmasters
actually performed their skills in front of small groups of the attending
jewelers. In 2005 we bring in the Platinum Guild for "A Day Of
Platinum" at Kraftwerks. Sunday is all about the new MJSA Jewelry
Academy. Teresa Shannon is the director. We plan on brining in some of the very
best instructors around.
We now cook a fine dinner and have a few cocktails with only our masters on Friday night after setup completes, cementing relationships among our talented Kraftmasters and staff.
On Saturday, upon your arrival as an attendee you can count on coffee, breakfast, a fine lunch, and in the evening a great home-style barbeque dinner. (All personal dietary needs taken care of with advance notice.
Oh, and an open bar as well for those post event brainstorms. We call this the "Brainstorm Bar and Grill". Sunday we will provide breakfast and lunch.
